Andy's Summer Playhouse

Andy’s Summer Playhouse is an innovative summer youth theater located in southern New Hampshire. Every summer we produce original works that are performed by local artists aged eight to eighteen, with direction and mentoring by professional artists from New Hampshire and beyond.

The Greenhouse

NEW TO ANDY'S, The Greenhouse is a metaphoric extension of The Playhouse, where an invited artist/group of artists hold residency for as little or as long as possible to create a new script. In The Greenhouse, we encourage experimentation, scene readings, workshops of movement ideas, and open work sessions so that kids may be exposed to the process of brainstorming for the stage. The Greenhouse culminates into a public reading of a full script.

For our 2016 Summer of Identity, The Greenhouse presents:

A stage adaptation of the book GEORGE by Alex Gino.

"When people look at George, they see a boy. But George knows she’s a girl. George thinks she’ll have to keep this a secret forever. Then her teacher announces that their class play is going to be Charlotte’s Web. George really, really, REALLY wants to play Charlotte. But the teacher says she can’t even try out for the part … because she’s a boy. With the help of her best friend Kelly, George comes up with a plan. Not just so she can be Charlotte – but so everyone can know who she is, once and for all."

Our 2016 Greenhouse Artists are:

Alex Gino, Author
Jess Barbagallo, NYC-based playwright and actor

We will be announcing dates of residency, workshops, and reading soon. For now, please welcome these amazing artists to the Andy's Community!
